The Plug-In Hybrid Car Starts to Win Over Buyers. The rollercoaster-like business cycles of EVs and Hybrid Vehicles in the last few years offer the perfect example of how regulations can impact an industry. Amidst the plunging sales of EVs which were wildly popular just two years ago, hybrids are soaring back, buoyed by friendly subsidies and tax credits from both manufacturers and the US government.

The Kindle: Reinventing the Book. A quick yet interesting summary of how Kindle was invented. Much as I think that Apple would produce an even better reading device, I don’t think that it would benefit the company much to do so. Kindle is great for reading, but Apple needs the personal device to be more than just about reading. I am glad that Amazon managed to create a great product in Kindle.

Apple Rethinks Its Movie Strategy After a String of Misses. Not even a $3 trillion company can succeed in areas where it doesn’t have any competitive capabilities. The American Dream Feels Out of Reach for Most. “The couple’s $5,400 mortgage, including $689 in private mortgage insurance, was tight but doable, between Celetti’s salary and her husband’s as mayor of the town at the time. But seemingly overnight, their energy costs doubled to more than $2,000 a month, and grocery prices, insurance and other bills for the family of now seven surged. Both Thomas and Celetti lowered their retirement contributions to near zero, scrapped plans for vacations and started setting the thermostat above 80 degrees in the summer and below 65 in the winter. They know selling the house—which has more than doubled in value—would be their best bet, but don’t know where they would go if they left.”
